Joseph arrives back in Nauvoo, having denounced the iniquity of Martin Van Buren on his trip home, and finally prophesying, "May he never be elected again to any office of trust or power, by which he may abuse the innocent and let the guilty go free." On this date the Senate Judiciary Committee in the case of the Saints versus Missouri renders its judgment "that the case presented for their investigation is not such a one as will justify or authorize any interposition by this government." (HC 4:90-92.)
