25 years ago today - May 3, 1988.

David P. Wright, BYU assistant professor in Asian and Near Eastern languages, who ranks high in all three areas of tenure review--scholarship, teaching, and citizenship-- is informed by a letter from BYU administrators that his contract will not be renewed because of his "unorthodox views" on "biblical scholarship, scriptural prophecy, and the Book of Mormon." The letter acknowledges that he does not teach these views in the classroom.
