[President Heber J. Grant Diary] At 9:45 met with a committee of five or six of the Apostles, and we discussed the question of appointing a patriarch. It is ten years since Hyrum G. Smith, the Presiding Patriarch, died. The brethren made a report that the Twelve had met twice in the Temple in the last week discussing the matter. I told them the Presidency would talk it over later and make some recommendations. I think that at the next General Conference we should appoint a Patriarch. I had no recommendation to make today. I asked the brethren of the Twelve to excuse me from attending the meeting of the Presidency and the Twelve in the temple at 10 o'clock today.
