Kirtland Council Minutes record, "The following individuals comprising the firm of F. G. Williams & Co (viz.) Joseph Smith Junr., Sidney Rigdon, Oliver Cowdery, W. W. Phelps, John Whitmer, and F. G. Williams, met in the upper room in the printing office to take into consideration the situation of the firm in a pecuniary point of view [in order] to devise ways & means to discharge the debts, to make a partial division of stock and to release form responsibility of the company Messrs. Wm. W. Phelps & John Whitmer."
