The New York Times report that the LDS church has preferred charges against LaMar E. Kay for embezzling $604,199.65 while an employee of the church's Auditing Department. This legal and publicized action is a departure from the previous church policy not to disclose embezzlements. Kay receives a twenty-year sentence.
